BioShock 2 is a first-person shooter video game developed by 2K Marin and published by 2K Games. It is the sequel to the 2007 video game BioShock and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360 on February 9, 2010.

Plot

In 1968, just eight years after the first game, the first successfully-bonded Big Daddy is reawakened to save his Little Sister from the clutches of Rapture's new leader, Sofia Lamb.

Why It Rocks

  1. You get to play as a Big Daddy known as Subject Delta, who were the most hulking and powerful enemies from the first game.
  2. Overall improved gameplay than its predecessor. For example you now have a drill that, when upgraded, can dash right into enemies.
  3. Even more nightmarish lore than the previous game, such as when the idea that the Big Sisters were tortured teenaged girls that became insane due to being unable to harvest anymore.
  4. The characters are still likeable and great to interact with, like Augustus Sinclair and Grace Halloway (with the exception of Sofia Lamb).
  5. The graphics and visual effects still look amazing, thanks again to Unreal Engine 2.5. The Splicers in fact, look much more horrific and mutated than the previous game.
  6. You still have abilities known as Plasmids to do things to enemies such as freezing them, setting them on fire, telekinesis, hack and control machines, etc, but now ones like Telekinesis can be upgraded to level 3. Plus you can now dual wield both your plasmid and your weapon.
  7. You now have seven endings depending on if you saved or harvested the Little Sisters and spared or killed the main characters.
  8. You can now adopt a Little Sister, which will follow you, until you have to leave her or harvest her.
  9. It has more enemy variety than the first game such as a Incredible Hulk like splicer called the Brute Splicer. There are also new variants of the powerful Big Daddies, like the Rumbler, a Rocket Launcher wielding Big Daddy that was cut from the first game.
  10. The Little Sisters now offer a legitimately tough choice, as when you save or harvest a Little Sister three times, the Big Sister, the new agile tank like enemy, can spawn, make a screeching noise, and track you down to kill you.
  11. The weapon selection is even more crazier, such as a Rivet Gun, a Gatling Gun and even a hacking gun that not only hack darts, but also some mini turrets that can stick to floors and walls.
  12. It includes a decent multiplayer mode known as BioShock 2: Fall of Rapture which takes place before the events of the first game (original versions only).
  13. It also spawned a really good story mode DLC by the name of Mineva's Den, which adds a new weapon called the Ion Laser, a new Plasmid called Gravity Well, and new enemies (including a Lancer type of Big Daddy) and levels.
  14. Just enough supplies to keep a constant sense of suspense without making the game too hard.

Bad Qualities

  1. Like the first game, the story mode is somewhat short as it can be finished in 10 hours or less if you know what your doing.
  2. The multiplayer, while it was decent, is kinda low on players now, especially on consoles.
  3. The game's plot, while decent, was extremely disappointing after the first game, largely due to a less understandable villain, a generic super-villain plan, and a goal to save a girl that we are given little reason to care about.
  4. With a couple of exceptions, there are no really any brand new, fresh environments, and many of them are hard to tell apart. Most them just feel like more of the same.
  5. Segments on the ocean floor are a wasted opportunity. They sound cool in theory, but they are just sections where the player walks between levels with a couple of piece of loot scattered around.
  6. Every little sister (of which there are 12) can gather from two corpses in unfun, unoriginal, copy-pasted, defend your position segments. While optional, they are required if the player wants to get all of the powers that they can. It can also make the players start to hate Little Sisters, making the choice of killing them lose some of its impact.
  7. The remastered port of this game on PC was also a disaster on launch and it didn't even have the multiplayer.
  8. Sofia Lamb is an unlikable antagonist. All she wants is to kill the protagonist for some only reason, just because of having a connection to your protagonist's job and acts like a whiny but vocally non-whiny brat.
  9. Technical issues in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, including choppy framerate, freezing issues, and bugs. Thankfully, this was fixed in the BioShock Collection.

Reception

BioShock 2 received positive reviews. On Review aggregator Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 88 out of 100 across its released platforms.[1][2][3]
