Cuphead is a run-and-gun boss rush game developed and published by StudioMDHR Entertainment. It was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One in September 2017. Mac OS X in October 2018, Nintendo Switch in April 2019, and PlayStation 4 in July 2020.

Why It Rocks

  1. The game has great graphics that resemble cartoons from the 1930s, such as the Mickey Mouse cartoons, making it stand out from other games.
  2. Fun, incredible, action-packed gameplay with plenty of challenges.
  3. Plenty of personality.
  4. Very tight and responsive controls.
  5. Great soundtrack, with plenty of jazz influences and instrumentation, especially for the boss fights such as Floral Flury and Honeycomb Herald.
  6. Extremely detailed landscapes and backgrounds.
  7. A lot of likeable characters. Even some of the antagonists, like the Root Pack, Hilda Berg, The Devil and King Dice are lovable.
  8. There was a glitch where you can clone the second player, which goes in hilarious ways!
  9. There's a ranking system, giving the game a lot of replayability.
  10. All the bosses have really unique and distinct designs; some are even based on beloved cartoon characters from the 1930s and 40s, such as Werner Werman being based of Jerry from Tom and Jerry.
  11. Parrying is a pretty unique feature, and it's quite helpful as doing it brings you closer to being able to activate your Super Art.
  12. Plenty of unique shooting options, such as Spread that has short range but strong power, or Roundabout that attacks from the front and the back.

Bad Qualities

  1. The physical copy of the game doesn't actually contain a disc. Instead, you just get a download code so you can download the game. Luckily, it makes up for it by including one of five animation cels.
  2. Some of the boss fights are pretty hard and frustrating to beat (which will cause players to rage) and based too much on trial and error.
    • You also are required to beat all of them on a normal difficulty to progress to the final stages. Putting it on simple difficulty won't let you progress.
  3. Some of the power-ups you can't obtain until you buy other power-ups you may or may not want or need.
  4. There are various glitches that make some stages either impossible or bizarrely easy to beat.
  5. After defeating the boss in Treetop Trouble, you have one final gap to jump over. If you fail to make the gap at 1 HP, you will fail that stage and even after winning you have to go all the way through the stage and fight the boss all over again.

Trivia

  • The game was in development hell for 7 years.
  • Bosses like Cagney Carnation, Beppi the Clown and Calamaria, the song Florar Fury and the PS4 trailer have spawned internet memes.
  • Similar to other characters like Trasvis, Ältair and Vault Boy, Cuphead is a Mii costume in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
    • Like Sans, the costume also includes a song, that is Floral Fury.
  • The game will have soon a cartoon on Netflix called "The Cuphead Show" that will come out in a moment of 2021.

Is this game satanic?

I mean, it's all about the main duo losing their souls to Satan, and them collecting souls for him. I'm pretty sure this game is not satanic, or promoting Satan, but just wondering?

You kind of sound like one of those religious nut-jobs, but the game is actually harmless.

Not exactly Satanic at all. That's only your opinion.

Thanks for confirming it's not promoting Satan. I'm sorta religious and was wondering and thanks for telling me pretty much what I expected you would say. My parents once asked what it's about, and when my brother told them, they were not pleased to say the least.

Continuing, because the last comment was taking up too much space, my brother explained the game. They thought it was promoting Satan, except for the endings, and I could see why they would think that. However, he didn't have time to explain the endings, so they told my other brother (who was 34) to get rid of the game (remember, he was 34, and this is America).

Continuing, I could see if it was a Ouija Board, but this is Cuphead, a harmless, cartoonish (but somewhat dark) video game where Satan is the ANTAGONIST!!!!! I love my parents very much, and I'm not really into Cuphead, but this incedent happened Thanksgiving 2019 and I still have a hard time sleeping, because of it

Sorry the comments are so long, but in conclusion, one day, I will tell my 34 year old brother he has the right to own that game, and I will explain that Cuphead is one of the most harmless games out there.

Okay I exaggerated a bit. My brother was 20 and it wasn't neccesarily on Thanksgiving, I just wanted to put emphasis on it.

No surprise. At least in my opinion it was predictable, because the game is reminiscent of the 30's cartoons and it absolutely needed an adaptation.

Cupboy is back on the wiki!!

We should add a trivia like other games explaning why they are internet memes. Here is my example:

Some bosses (Like Cargney Carnation, Beppi the Clown or Calamaria), and the trailer for the PS4 have spawned different memes.
