Traveller's Tales is a British video game developer founded in 1989. It is a subsidiary of TT Games, itself a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The studio is notable for developing Lego-themed video games based on various intellectual properties.

Why They Rock

  1. They make a lot of great Lego games with great properties. Without them Lego games would never be the same.
  2. They also made some good non-Lego games like Toy Story, Leander, and the Crash Bandicoot series.
  3. In the 90s, they pushed consoles to their limits with the majority of their games.
    • Toy Story on the Sega Genesis features over 64 colors on screen, a 3D first person level with ceiling graphics and depth walls, and an Amiga MOD player which is used in the credits and the main menu.
    • Puggsy (also on the Sega Genesis) featured a full screen rotating pirate ship and a scaling raccoon head boss zooming in and out in real time.
    • Mickey Mania features rotating cylinders during the Mad Doctor level.
    • Both versions of Sonic 3D Blast feature an FMV intro and a 3D-ish bonus stage.
    • Sonic R on the Sega Saturn featured reflections on some polygons and fading polygons as most Saturn games used pop up.
    • Rascal on the PS1 had reflections on some polygons, particle effects, and no polygon warping which PS1 games tend to suffer from.
  4. They tend to have a good use of their source material when they make licensed tie-ins.

Bad Qualities

  1. They tend to make poor-quality games, such as Rascal, Finding Nemo, Super Monkey Ball Adventure, and Transformers: The Game.
    • They developed average-quality Sonic the Hedgehog games, including Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast, although they put the hardware run on to the limits.
    • Some of the newer Lego games aren't as good, especially notable being The Lego Movie 2 Video game.
  2. Their modern logo is considered by many as a huge downgrade from their previous logo.
  3. In January 2022, it was reported that TT was using crunch time to develop Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (which was in development for 5 years), as well as harassing female employees.
    • The Skywalker Saga used a new in-house engine called "NTT", which was extremely controversial within the company. TT will instead use the Unreal Engine for future games.

  • Jon Burton, the founder of Traveler's Tales, now runs three YouTube channels called GameHut, Space Hut, and Coding Secrets.
